TAJ Card administration procedure at the University of Pécs

1. Who is entitled to free healthcare services (having a TAJ social security card)?
  • Those foreign students whose student status with the University of Pécs has been established based on either an international agreement, or a scholarship granted by the Minister for Education or by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (e.g. Stipendium Hungaricum, Minister’s Award, Hunyadi János or Diaspora Higher Educational Award) (Hereinafter referred to as ‘Foreign scholarship holders’).

Your TAJ card request is managed by the Customer Service of the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI).

  • Dual citizenship students with state-funded scholarship or self-financed students (provided they are full-time students).

Your TAJ card request is also handled by the Customer Service of the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI).

Please note:

In case you are a foreign student, or a student without Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, or without Minister’s Award, regarding health insurance administration, please contact Mr Tamás Nádai at: nadai.tamas@pte.hu

2. How to apply for the TAJ Number and the TAJ social security card?
  • You can start your TAJ card request procedure in the Neptun study system by filling out the Request Form and by uploading the necessary documents (as ‘Supplements’). After logging into Neptun, you will find the Request Form under Administration menu/ Requests/ Request Fill, under the title of ‘PTE-Request form for the social security (TAJ) card’. If you cannot find this form, please contact your study administrator at the Faculty Registrar’s Office. If you are indeed eligible for free healthcare service, the issue is generally due to Neptun settings that need to be modified.

In all cases you are responsible for updating your personal data and ensuring their correctness, thus it is important to always double-check the correctness of your personal data before submitting the TAJ request.

  • In the next step, the evaluation of the request is completed at your Faculty Registrar’s Office.

  • If your data on the request is correct, the request will be electronically forwarded to the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI) for further administration. (In case of incorrect data, the Faculty Registrar’s Office study administrator sends the request back to you for correction.)

  • After having checked the data and the uploaded documents, the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI) forwards the TAJ Request file to NEAK (Hungarian Health Authority) that produces first your TAJ Number, then after reporting your student status, your TAJ Card that is posted to the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI).

  • The produced TAJ Card can be collected in person at the Customer Service of the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI) after you have booked an appointment on the website time.pte.hu. A copy of the TAJ Card is also uploaded to your Documents in the Neptun system. A Neptun message and an e-mail are sent by the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI) when the TAJ card is available for pick-up.

3. Valid documents to support the request initiated by students

Documents in proof of eligibility for students with dual citizenship:

  • Both sides of the Address Card (Lakcím kártya),

  • Both sides of the personal ID card (Személyi igazolvány), or passport,

  • So-called E104 or S40 Form (Külföldi biztosítási időszakot igazoló nyomtatvány - to certify health insurance periods).

Documents in proof of eligibility for foreign students with a scholarship:

  • Valid passport,

  • Both sides of the residence permit – Important: NEAK (Health Authority) does not accept a temporary permit in this procedure, only the actual valid plastic card is accepted,

  • Both sides of the address card, or the Address Card with a QR code.

4. What to do in case of expiry of the TAJ Card?

You can request the extension of your TAJ Card in the following two ways:

  • Request submitted online via Neptun: the earliest possible date to apply is 30 days prior to the expiry date of the TAJ Card. The administration is completed in the same way as it was for the first time – you must upload your valid documents (passport copy, residence permit, Address Card with QR code).

  • Request submitted personally at NEAK Customer Service (Ügyfélszolgálat) (Address: H-7623 Pécs, Nagy Lajos király útja 3.): where you can apply for an extension of your TAJ Card by presenting valid personal documents (passport copy, residence permit, Address Card with QR code, for dual citizenship students personal ID, address card and Disclaimer Declaration) and the proof of your active student status.

In the second case you do not need to submit a TAJ Request via Neptun, nor documents, and you do not need to send back documents to the Customer Service of the Central Registrar’s Office. The entire process is handled in person at the Customer Service of the Health Authority. The produced card is sent by post to the address registered on your Address Card, or on the proof of address submitted upon application, so you do not need to collect it personally at the Customer Service.

Please present your valid TAJ card at your Faculty Registrar’s Office and ask your study administrator to register your TAJ data in Neptun. You can also present the TAJ Card for data registration purposes at the Customer Service of the Central Registrar’s Office (KTI).

5. Damage or loss of the TAJ Card

If your TAJ Card gets damaged or lost, you can request a new card at the Customer Service of the Health Authority (NEAK) - Address: H-7623 Pécs, Nagy Lajos király útja 3.
